I was proud to design and produce the award for the Stage 6 winner of the 2012 USA Pro Challenge. The stage ended up being the most watched American road race of all time. With a finish at the top of Flagstaff mountain in Boulder, CO, it was the home turf to many of the racers. This included the winner, Rory Sutherland. While not a native Coloradan, Rory had been living in Boulder and knew the race course well.

Since this stage traversed a good portion of the front range, I wanted to represent this in the design. It is literally a wheel riding over the three 14’ers on the Colorado front range- Pike’s Peak, Mt. Evans, and Longs Peak.

The award was waterjet cut from 3/4″ thick aluminum, sanded and polished for hours, and then bonded together with thin aluminum spacers between the main pieces.
